Excellents at Manzanita
Honors
On November 14, a team comprised of 5th
grade students represented our school in the Elementary Math Challenge of Southern Arizona Elementary School Math Championship at University High School. 330 students from Tucson and the surrounding counties participated in this event. Our students, Elliot Liu, Nathan Kuo, Noah Wellman, Beri Yang, Isabelle Simon, Margo Lefkowitz, Jad Bader, and Devak Shah did so well, taking first and second place overall in the competition!
In the individual categories, Elliot Liu- 1st place, Nathan Kuo-2nd place, Noah Wellman -3rd place, Beri Yang- 7th place, and Isabelle Simon- 8th place. Their coach is Kelly Taylor. Next step: State finals in April!
Awards
Dawna Sipe, Manzanita physical education teacher recently received numerous awards from the American Heart Association: "Appreciation Award" - for outstanding achievement in support of the AHA efforts in cardiovascular science, education and community programs 2013-2014; "Buck The Tradition Award" - In recognition of having a creative and innovative approach to the event, Jump Rope for Heart, "Top Growth" - Having the most growth in Arizona, and "Top Online Event" - Raising funds online in Arizona for the AHA. Congratulations, Mrs. Sipe!
