Update from the Principal

Updates on Report Cards, TOY, and the new Test!

Report cards were due to be sent home today, Fridy, November 14.  Unfortunately, due to a faulty software update supplied by our grade book vendor earlier this week, report cards currently cannot be generated. We will not be able to get report cards printed, sorted, and distributed to send home today. We apologize for the delay in providing feedback regarding your student’s progress. Another notice will be sent out when we have word that the problem is solved and that report cards are ready to be sent home.

On Monday, November 3rd, the Arizona Department of Education announced some of the details regarding the new standardized assessment to be administered to students in April 2015.  The American Institutes for Research (AIR) has created the Arizona Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AzMERIT). This assessment will measure the students’ mastery of the standards including problem solving and critical thinking skills. Similar to the field test administered last spring, it is anticipated that our students will complete the test using computers. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will take AzMERIT to measure the English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards.  Students in grade 4 will also take the AIMS Science test. We will continue to share information with you as it becomes available.

We are still seeking at least one parent to join our School Council. If you would like to be considered, please fill out the School Council Application, located in Files and Forms, just above this blog. Please submit it to the office no later than next Friday, November 21.

Another very important reminder: if you are an open enrollment family, it is necessary for you to re-apply each year. If you currently attend Manzanita via open enrollment and wish to continue, please be sure to submit the application for next year, beginning December 1, 2014. Please complete an application form between December 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015.  Open Enrollment applications and information regarding the application process are on the district web site, (as of December 1, 2014), or at the district office Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

It is time once again to recognize our superb teachers!  The CFSD Foundation sponsors the Teacher of the Year Program, TOY, which honors the contributions of teachers and their role in student education. Please take a moment to nominate an exceptional teacher who is making or has had a positive impact on you and your child. Two CFSD "Teacher of the Year" and three "Distinguished Educators"  will be recognized at the TOY Family Event on April 12, 2015 at La Paloma Resort. Nominations are accepted between November 3 and 30.

Thank you for your continued interest in your child’s education. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us. Thank you.
