A Summary Report of the October 28, 2014 Staff CFSD Governing Board Meeting


Super Volunteer Recognition
The governing board recognized Eugenia Chen, Michael and Renee Griffith, as super volunteers. Board President Carole Siegler reviewed the volunteer efforts of Ms. Chen at Esperero Canyon Middle School (ECMS). Ms. Chen was one of the founders of the ECMS STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) night.


President Siegler also recognized Mr. & Mrs. Griffith for their creation of an interactive student club benefiting children in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) at Canyon View Elementary.

On behalf of the governing board, Ms. Siegler presented all three super volunteers with a certificate of appreciation and a key chain that stated, “Making a World of Difference.


2014-2015 Comparative Enrollment Report
Assistant Superintendent Denise Bartlett presented the 2014-2015 Enrollment Report. Dr. Bartlett reported that on October 2, 2014, CFSD’s enrollment was 4,943, a decrease of 39 students over the October 3, 2013, enrollment numbers. Grade level enrollments are K-5 = 2,076; 6-8 = 1,228; and 9-12 = 1,639. The non- resident enrollment is 1,892. The CARE before and after school program has an increase of 1% over the prior year. Valley View Early Learning Center is at capacity with an enrollment of 152. These enrollments are based on the 40-day average daily membership (ADM). The 100-day ADM will be the official count that determines state funding.


Assessment / A-F Letter Grades
Associate Superintendent Mary Jo Conery presented the CFSD 2014 Assessment Report. This report provides data on student performance and achievement in our schools. The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) uses the data for both federal and state accountability purposes. Also presented was information about A-F letter grades. The grade system was created to provide information about the overall academic performance of schools and the district. The report included AIMS test results, and the formula for the grading of schools A-F. Six of seven CFSD schools received the letter grade A. The district was graded A.

Upcoming Board Meeting
The next regularly scheduled governing board meeting is Wednesday, November 12, 2014, 6:30 p.m., Catalina Foothills High School, Building 4, Room 712. Note: The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday due to the Veteran’s Day holiday.
